Local Law Enforcement
Around 50 automobiles have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, building surfaces and postal boxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police report they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored liquid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Police then found many other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under regulations banning the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Police say early analysis suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; investigators are not yet cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives said they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important representative said the incident rendered him speechless and had to be addressed promptly.
"This event affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the trauma of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a shooter targeting individuals of migrant background in five years prior.
